Introductions are a good place to begin…

We are LaMarcus and Kendra. Both of our families are multi-generational farmers/ranchers in Texas and Oklahoma. And we were both exposed to raising cattle during our younger years. Sometimes it takes going away to come back to where you’re meant to be… Our lives relating to cattle came full circle when LaMarcus’ grandfather, James Mangram, passed away in 2013. We took over what we now call Mangram Ranch, land that has been in the Mangram family since the 1930s, a few cows, a bull, and two crazy horses. Over the years, and with lots of help from family, friends, Google, YouTube, short courses & conferences, #ranchlife has grown on us. We now manage a 30-40 head herd, depending on how many calves we have, and are considered a Small Producer (less than 50). We operate two pastures, the primary being Mangram Ranch, where our cows and herd bull are kept. The secondary is Headwaters Ranch, where we keep young heifers not ready for breeding, and our steers which will eventually be processed for beef.

When we started, I know we didn’t have a plan. Keep the land in the family and maintain a tradition. It was a hobby that got us out of the city a few times each month. Now, it’s a fulfilling business with dreams and plans attached to it. And it seems logical that the next step is to sell our beef. Which will be your beef, and knowing where your food comes from and how it’s treated are important. Every steer we have is born and raised in Mangram & Headwaters pastures. They have plenty of wide-open space to roam and eat. Our beef is all-natural, which means we never use hormones or antibiotics. Our stockmanship and handling of the cattle are humane and low-stress. These beliefs were even a factor in choosing our processing partner, which is a USDA-certified facility. Our herd is a mix of Hereford (red & white) and Black Angus (solid black), which gives us various markings on the cattle - and the second and third best breeds behind Wagyu for marbling. And now you know our little story… So, shop our store and take some beef from our pastures to your belly!
